We provide a diverse work environment with responsibilities ranging from dispatch communications to emergency coordination. The role is part of the Office of Highway Maintenance/Dispatch Operations and relies on clear, timely communication between county staff and external partners.

About the Position

The County is searching for a senior level General Clerk IV to support the Department of Public Works and Transportation’s emergency dispatch communications program. The role serves as the primary communication link between residents, County personnel, public safety agencies, utility providers, and outside agencies during routine and after-hour operations. Employees will operate multiple communication systems simultaneously to document and maintain operational continuity in a fast‑paced environment. The position may require rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

About the Agency

The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) maintains nearly 2,000 miles of County‑maintained roadways, 900 bridges, and numerous stormwater facilities. The department performs a wide range of activities including snow removal, traffic signal upgrades, streetlight installation, tree clearing, drainage maintenance, and roadway repairs.

Examples of Work

  • Receives and prioritizes emergency and non‑emergency service requests from residents, County personnel, and partner agencies.
  • Monitors two‑way radio traffic and dispatch roadway maintenance emergencies.
  • Supports County emergency operations during declared emergencies and inclement weather events.
  • Documents service requests in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Maintains logs and operational documentation for compliance reporting.
  • Monitors video security system to ensure continuous safety and functionality.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience at the General Clerk III level equal to the length of the probationary period of six months.
  • Completion of a High School Diploma or GED and one year of education above the high school level, including coursework in computer data entry, secretarial subjects or business administration.
  • Six months of experience performing diverse clerical tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate radio communication and computerized management systems.
  • Knowledge of dispatching principles, emergency communication protocols, and incident prioritization.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Proven customer service and interpersonal skills.
