Primary Purpose:

Provides protection for art on museum premises and the Museum Plaza 10th and 11th floors. Provides a crime prevention and life-safety presence; controls access to NSU owned and leased property by opening, closing and monitoring entry points. Investigates incidents and occurrences at assigned NSU locations. Manages performance and activities of Security Officers and contract security employees.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Plans security coverage for special events; coordinates with the Public Safety Staff to ensure adequate security manpower.

2. Manages and supervises security personnel to include hiring, training, development, scheduling and minimizing staff overtime.

3. Manages the response and investigation of specific incidents, crime occurrences, and suspicious situations.

4. Manages emergency incident response and submit reports to public safety on the findings and results.

5. Evaluates facilities for potential security and safety deficiencies while completing remedial actions; completes reports on progress of actions.

6. Manages staff in planning and executing the locking and unlocking access control for buildings.

7. Conducts security and safety audits or surveys to specifically identify hazards and dangers. Completes written reports indicating necessary recommendations for security and safety improvements. Detects and prevents security and safety hazards.

8. Effectively manages the cooperative relationship between campus individuals to provide a higher level of protection.

9. Resources and coordinates with local law enforcement, fire and emergency officials in the prevention and response to fire and other potentially life threatening incidents.

10. Conducts field operations planning for emergency response.

11. Monitors operating budgets on a consistent basis.

12. Processes invoices on Ariba and journal entries for banner related to security.

13. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Ability to read physical security specifications.

2. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.

3. Conflict management skills.

4. Ability to work under pressure.

5. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful situations.

6. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

7. Ability to communicate effectively with others.

8. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of bending, climbing, sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties up to 8 hours.

2. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils and computer keyboards.

3. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

4. Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. Have or obtain a valid Florida Driver's License with no more than three (3) points.

2. Have or obtain a current Florida "D" Security Officer license within the first six months of employment.

Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Four (4) years of patrol, field operations, or closely related police/security experience.

OR

Three (3) years of supervisory experience in patrol, field operations, or closely related police/security field

Must complete an associate’s degree or obtain sixty (60) college credits within two years of hire.
